"At Stud" to a limited number of approved bitches
An OptiGen "A" Stud
Approximately six weeks prior to the 2001 Specialty, Argus was blindsided by a very solidly built puppy which resulted in an injury to Argus that left him with a limp and an inability to put weight on his left foreleg. He then proceeded to dump his glorious coat that he had been wearing so long throughout our record breaking hot summer. Two weeks after his encounter with the speeding puppy, one of our bitches, "Ch Littleriver's Sassy Girl", apparently ate a mushroom three days before her due date. She died in my arms the next morning. Argus was sharing the back yard with Sassy and it appears that he either ate some of the mushroom as well or sampled some of Sassy's stool. We almost lost Gus as well, but thanks to the excellent care of Dr. Claudia Delungen, he has made a remarkable recovery.
We continued to the Specialty, knowing that Gus would probably not be in shape to participate due to the limp which would reoccur with any amount of exercise. On the day of the Specialty Gus was still holding his weight off of his left foreleg. It would have been terribly unfair and unspeakably cruel to show a dog that is in obvious pain and under stress, so Gus was left in our daughters care at the motel while Dawn & I spent the day as spectators at the Specialty.
We thoroughly enjoyed watching the tollers and the judging. We wish to congratulate the winners and all who participated. We would also like to congratulate the Show Committee for all of their fine efforts in hosting the 2001 Toller Specialty.
